[Statement] Solidarity with the People of Cuba!

Statement of Solidarity with the People of Cuba

The International Migrants Alliance in the Americas expresses its strongest solidarity with the and blockade imposed by the United States. Today, fuel shortages, blackouts, flight cancellations, and the severe disruption of essential services are spreading across the country and affecting the daily lives of millions. These are the direct result of US policy designed to strangle a nation and attempt to subjugate it through hunger and isolation.

The Trump administration has intensified the blockade, cutting off oil supplies from Venezuela and threatening tariff sanctions on countries that attempt to provide fuel to Cuba. These actions have paralyzed transportation, closed schools, and exacerbated the shortage of food and basic supplies for the entire population. The Cuban people are being collectively punished in an open campaign of economic warfare waged in the name of fascist imperialism, which seeks to strangle a people for having the audacity and dignity to carry out a historic experiment that breaks with US neoliberal domination.

Across the Americas, migrants and refugees are living proof of the same system of oppression that is now trying to regain its control over Cuba. In the United States, ICE continues to terrorize migrant communities through raids, detention, deportations, and family separations. Migrant workers who were pushed out of their homelands by war, sanctions, and economic plunder are met with prisons and deportation flights instead of receiving treatment that respects their human rights and dignity, Cuban migrants, like those from Venezuela, Haiti, Mexico, and Central America, are trapped in this same tragedy caused by US interventionism, which generates displacement while its immigration policy criminalizes migrants and displaced persons.

In Canada, the newly approved Bill C-12 poses a significant threat to the rights and safety of migrants and refugees, as it ominously expands the state's power to arbitrarily cancel immigration documents and block legitimate refugee claims, exacerbating the risks of detention and deportation.

Throughout Latin America, entire nations continue to suffer under the weight of US sanctions, interventions, and economic pressure. From the blockade of Cuba to the to the aggression and military siege of Venezuela and the wider imposition of neoliberal policies across the region, millions are pushed into poverty, unemployment, low wages, and forced migration.

The struggles of migrants in detention centres in the United States, the struggles of migrants and refugees facing deportation under Bill C-12 in Canada, or the "Border Shield" in Chile and the struggles of workers and peasants resisting sanctions and intervention in Latin America are part of the same fight being waged by the people of Cuba today. These are expressions of a single system that exploits, displaces, and represses working people across borders.

As millions across the world watched Super Bowl 60, artists like Bad Bunny used their platform to call attention to the struggles of peoples across the Americas. It is a reminder that from the stadiums and streets to the farms, factories, and migrant communities, the call for dignity and justice continues to echo. Let this moment remind us that the peoples of the Americas must keep resisting and keep fighting against imperialism, deportations, and crackdowns wherever

The International Migrants Alliance in the Americas calls on all migrants, workers, and peoples’ movements to stand with Cuba and to resist the policies of Trump and US imperialism that threaten the lives and dignity of millions. We denounce the blockade, the sanctions, the raids, the deportations, and the border militarization that define this era of fascism and neoliberal aggression.

From US detention centers to migrant communities in every corner of the Americas, in the neighborhoods, farms, camps, and factories of Latin America, people are rising in resistance. Our struggles are connected. Our enemies are the same. Our strength lies in unity, solidarity, and collective action.

Hands off Cuba.
End the blockade and all sanctions.
Stop ICE terror, deportations, and anti-migrant laws.
Down with Trump, US imperialism, fascism, militarism, and neoliberalism.
