[STATEMENT] Justice for the Victims of Lapu-Lapu Day Festival Tragedy
April 28, 2025
The International Migrants Alliance expresses deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and the entire Filipino-Canadian community affected by the tragic events at the Lapu Lapu Day festival in Vancouver, Canada.
On April 26, 2025, a 30-year old driving a black SUV rammed into the droves of people in the said festival killing 11 people, including a five-year old child, and injuring dozens more.
This senseless act leaves us not only heartbroken and grieving but also determined to seek justice for the victims. The Lapu Lapu Day festival, a celebration of Filipino heritage and the valor of Chief Lapu-Lapu, was meant to be a joyful gathering of culture and community. Instead, it became the scene of unimaginable loss.
The IMA demands a full and thorough investigation into this tragic incident. We call on the Canadian authorities to ensure that all those responsible are held accountable and that justice is served swiftly and transparently.
The IMA stands in solidarity with the Filipino-Canadian community and all those mourning this profound loss. We join leaders worldwide in calling for compassion, healing, and a renewed commitment to safeguarding our communities from such tragedies.
